About yIGF 2023
Cambodia Youth Internet Governance Forum 2023
In 2023, Open Development Cambodia (ODC) introduced yIGF to Cambodian youth for the first time. It aimed to raise the awareness of youth on Internet governance discourse and to encourage the young generation to have more active engagement in policy discussion and the decision-making process. The forum allows youth, technological professionals, policymakers, and experts to share knowledge and to make positive changes in information sharing and internet safety, in addition to that is for them to understand their role in future society.
Cambodia yIGF aims to develop youth leaders’ understanding of the Internet and its ecosystem. It also aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to participate in Internet policymaking through developing a strong foundation in the following:
- Develop youth leaders’ understanding of Internet governance and the multistakeholder model of policymaking.
- Equip participants with the knowledge and skills to engage in Internet policymaking, focusing on current Cambodian digitalization in which links to Internet governance.
- Empower youth to voice their opinions and concerns regarding Internet-related issues in particularly in ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Provide immersive, hands-on sessions with expert mentoring from private and governmental sectors on the ecosystem of governance internetization and digitalization.
What is yIGF?
Youth Internet Governance Forums in most of the cases are the youth Initiatives of the Internet Governance Forums which are form with the goal of encouraging and involving young people in the emerging issues of the Internet governance. The Youth Internet Governance Forums (yIGFs) encompass a sequence of gatherings that unites youth in profound discussion and deliberation regarding the matter pertaining to Internet governance.

Mission
The mission is to educate and engage Cambodian youth about Internet Governance, empower them to advocate for their rights, and create a safer digital environment through education and awareness.
Vision
The vision is to empower Cambodian youth with internet-related skills and knowledge that will help them protect themselves from potential risks and vulnerabilities. The goal is to create a digitally literate and resilient generation of youth who can navigate the online world safely and confidently.
Value
The empowerment of Cambodian youth through education and engagement. They believe in the importance of educating young people about internet governance, digital literacy, and online safety to create a safer and more inclusive digital environment for all.
